2026 Call for Submissions for Archival Screening night

2026 Northwest Archivists Annual MIPoPS Archival Screening Night

June 25, 2026 @ 7 p.m.

Collins Memorial Library at the University of Puget Sound

Moving Image Preservation of Puget Sound (MIPoPS) will host the seventh annual NWA Archival Screening Night this year at the Northwest Archivists 2026 meeting. Please join us for an evening of entertainment and awareness for archival moving images, with a screening of film and video recordings from archival collections.

The in-person event will be hosted at the Collins Memorial Library, University of Puget Sound, on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 7:00 pm.

Theme

Inspired by the conference theme “Grit and Memory: Preserving the Stories That Built Our Communities,” we invite submissions that capture moments of perseverance, resilience, and determination in the Pacific Northwest. We’re especially interested in moving images that show how individuals and communities face challenges, adapt, and continue to build the places they call home or work towards a common goal.

These stories might appear in many forms: oral histories reflecting on difficult moments or turning points; news footage documenting protests, labor struggles, or community organizing; home movies capturing everyday determination and care; musical performances or cultural events that bring people together; documentaries or experimental films that explore resilience in creative ways; or even striking b-roll of people at work—on the water, in forests, on construction sites, in kitchens, studios, classrooms, or streets.

In addition to celebrating perseverance, we also welcome works that question the idea of “grit” itself. Are there moments when communities challenge unfair barriers rather than simply endure them? How do people work together to change the conditions around them?

Any type of moving image will be accepted to create an inclusive showcase of videotape and film materials that demonstrate the diverse moving history of the Northwest. Everyone is invited (and strongly encouraged) to submit! Some priority will be given to first-time applicants and works that speak to the Tacoma region or the conference theme.
