nwa professional development scholarship

Intent:
This annual $1000 scholarship is established to promote the professional development of practicing regional archivists, by such means as attendance at workshops, institutes, conferences or other training opportunities. In particular, it is intended as a resource for colleagues who are self-employed or receive inadequate employer-provided assistance.

Guidelines:
Applicants must be currently engaged in the archival profession, broadly defined, in Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho or Montana, and have a minimum of one year FTE paid or unpaid professional experience. They should be members of the Northwest Archivists, and have limited or no access to institutional funding for continuing education activities. Nominations of a third party and applications involving purchase of supplies or equipment will not be considered. Members of the NWA Scholarships Committee are ineligible during their term of service and for one year afterward.

Recipients are encouraged to attend the Annual Meeting for a formal award presentation, and are expected to provide a description of the scholarship-related activity, when completed, in the NWA blog.

Selection:
Current members of the Northwest Archivists Scholarships Committee will review applications and select an annual recipient. The application postmark deadline is March 1st at 12:00AM Pacific. All applicants will be notified by early April. The scholarship may be used any time throughout the subsequent calendar year. 

The following items are required for application:

• A completed application form
  
• A current resume or curriculum vitae
• A formal letter of application. At minimum it should include a description of the proposed activity, how it will be particularly useful, and the context of relevant financial need.

The following items are optional:

• Materials associated with the proposed activity
• One letter of recommendation
