The Society of Rocky Mountain Archivists would like to share an announcement about our upcoming virtual Continuing Education event Community Archives: Expanding our Circles of Care in Academia, Tuesday June 27, 11AM – 2:30 PM (MST).

This continuing education session on community archives brings together archival practitioners from UC Santa Cruz, UC Irvine, and the Association of Moving Image Archivists’ Community Archiving Workshop, to share lessons from their experiences in establishing, growing, and maintaining community archiving projects and programs. Their presentations and discussions will touch on strategies for forming meaningful and reciprocal community relationships, for obtaining buy-in and material support from campus administrators and stakeholders, and activating professional organizations for regional collaboration across institutions.

Northwest Archivists Virtual Annual Conference 2022

Not to be Forgotten: the resiliency and sustainability of archives to preserve untold stories

When: Monday, May 2 - Thursday, May 5, 2022

Location: Wherever you are! This is NWA's second online conference via Whova, our virtual conference platform.

The all-virtual conference offers all attendee gatherings, presentations, panel discussions, and networking opportunities of your own design within the Whova conference platform.

Once you've registered for the conference, you'll receive an email with instructions on how to log in to Whova. Registration includes access to the Whova online conference platform, all live conference sessions, special events, and continued access to conference materials for 30 days following the event.

MIPoPS will host the third annual NWA Archival Screening Night this year at the virtual annual meeting of the Northwest Archivists 2022. Please join us for an evening of entertainment and awareness for archival moving images, with a screening of film and video recordings from archival collections.

The event will be held virtually on Wednesday, May 4th at 3:00 - 5:00pm PST.

NOT TO BE FORGOTTEN

Inspired by the conference theme, “Not to be Forgotten” we are seeking content covering and created by diverse perspectives and communities highlighting “the resiliency and sustainability to preserve untold stories”. Videotaped oral histories, news footage, music, experimental films, documentaries, and just about any other kind of moving images will be accepted, but submissions relating to the theme will be prioritized.

Through a collaborative effort of the Ivan Doig Center for the Study of the Lands & Peoples of the North American West, the Archives and Special Collections (ASC) department of the MSU Library, and the Friends of MSU Library, Montana State University offers a $2,500 annual award to facilitate research into collections held by ASC.

The award is intended to defray the costs of either travel to Bozeman to conduct research; to facilitate digitization of portions of a collection to allow a researcher to work remotely; or a mix of the two. Recipients may be academics (including graduate students) or independent scholars.

Northwest Archivists, Inc. is offering a $6,000 stipend for one graduate student (or recent graduate) to receive an Archivist-in-Residence opportunity. The purpose of this residency is three-fold: 1. To offer upcoming and new professionals with paid career development opportunities to apply knowledge in archives, libraries, museums, or a related field; 2. To teach new archivists how to accurately calculate the value of their education, experience, and overall value as an archivist; and 3. To provide an opportunity for archival organizations to work toward the long term goal of eliminating unpaid work within the field. The residency may last up to 12 weeks to be completed by the end of the current calendar year. The resident will receive a one-year complimentary membership to Northwest Archivists.

Northwest Archivists is excited to share that the #ACENSUSII #ArchivesAdminSurvey is now live!! This is a select nationwide survey of senior archives administrators. It aims to gather information about institutional characteristics, resources, strategic directions, and diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) from every archival institution in the US.

You should take this survey if you can respond to questions about staffing, budgets and allocation of resources, organizational strategy, changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and DEIA issues. We are looking at options for the 2023 NWA conference and may be considering sites other than Alaska next year, due to the high cost of deposits to ensure a conference site and the continuing uncertainty around travel. We would like to hear from you before we make any big decisions.
